Teda usutles andmeteaduse õppetooli juhataja professor Jaak Vilo. (Foto: Marja-Liisa Plats) Oled hiljuti saanud palju tähelepanu oma teadustulemuste populariseerimisel. Räägi oma doktoritööst veidi lähemalt. Töötan terviseinformaatika uurimisgrupis, kus meie eesmärk on koostöös meditsiiniekspertidega parandada Eesti inimeste tervist […]

Introduction: Privacy-preserving computation is a crucial discipline that protects the privacy of confidential data while facilitating secure analysis. In graph problems, secure multiparty computation (SMC) presents a promising approach to performing these functionalities. This article delves into the notable advancements in privacy-preserving parallel algorithms recently introduced in a Ph.D. thesis. By integrating graph algorithms with […]

Jaak Vilo, Kallol Roy Algorithmics (MTAT.03.238) is an obligatory course in the Computer Science MSc curriculum. As such it is intended to remind everyone of the foundations of algorithms and data structures but also to go beyond and teach some more advanced concepts (like succinct data structures, for example).  The course aims at linking different […]

The cornerstone of democracy is the right for voters to participate in free and fair elections. However, securing elections is a non-trivial task due to the conflicting security requirements.  On the one hand, to provide the freedom to vote, it should not be possible to coerce voters into voting for a specific candidate. Therefore, the […]

Kaur Alasoo on Tartu Ülikooli arvutiteaduse instituudi bioinformaatika lektor. Tema artikkel ilmus Õhtulehes 22. mail 2022. Tegu on eesti noorte teaduste akadeemia algatatud artiklisarjaga “ElemENTAarne”, kus noorteadlased kirjutavad põnevatest teadustulemustest ja näitavad, kuidas teadus meie elu rikastab. Miks on nii, et teadlased suutsid vähem kui aastaga välja arendada mitu konkureerivat koroonaviiruse vastast vaktsiini, aga meil […]

More than 2000 participants were involved in cyber defence exercise Locked Shields 2022 that took place from April 19 to 22. This year, one of the venues of the event was the Delta Centre in Tartu. Employees of the HPC Center of the University of Tartu and the Institute of Computer Science participated in the […]

We are currently in the process of significant changes in the communications paradigms. Among others, one of the changes is moving to cloud-based services instead of using local applications (Office365, Youtube, Spotify, etc.). We can argue about the motivation of this trend, but this allows us to provide the customers with the most up-to-date solutions […]

Researchers from the University of Tartu’s Institute of Computer Science are taking part in the EU Horizon project SPATIAL (Security and Privacy Accountable Technology Innovations, Algorithms and Machine Learning), which aims to develop resilient accountable metrics, privacy-preserving methods, verification tools and system solutions that will serve as critical building blocks for trustworthy AI in ICT […]

Another round of digital product management industry projects is successfully completed in the Sandbox! This semester we had four industry partners, and our student teams did excellent work in addressing the challenges and prototyping proposed solutions. SEB PankThe challenge: find a way how to help its clients on the journey towards a green home. During […]

The original article (in Estonian) by Airika Harrik was published in Novaator. Estonia has used the ID card system as a means to identify its citizens for almost 20 years. During those years, several security issues have emerged. A new PhD dissertation from the University of Tartu has shed light on those issues and pointed […]
